Anybody know if the writer or anyone else associated with The Usual Suspects went to UT? Gabriel Byrne‘s character Dean Keaton just seems too close to Dean Keeton St. in Austin.

I work at UT in a building next to Dean Keeton.
If I remember correctly, both the director and the screenwriter are both from New Jersey. Maybe the name was just a tribute to Dean Martin and Buster Keaton. Maybe I’m making this up as I go along. Sorry. Tangents.
The film school in Austin is on Dean Keaton St. A friend of mine teaches there and has also been a script doctor on dozens of projects for about 25 years. It wouldn’t surprise me if she slipped that in there.
Due to the nature of her gig (and the thousands and thousands of dollars per year it earns her), she is usually fairly tight-lipped about what she works on.
I’m pretty sure Christopher McQuarrie didn’t go to UT, nor did his writing partner Bryan Singer. With so many film-types in Austin, I wouldn’t doubt that somebody else threw that in there just for fun. McQuarrie gives a little timeline of his early career in this article.
