A potentially unreliable source has make a startling claim to me: that there is a Target somewhere in Dallas (North Dallas, I believe, but still in the city limits) that sells good sushi. I find this thought frightening, yet strangly alluring. Anyone with additional info on this or other sources for cut-rate yet non-diseased sushi, please spill.

only partially related: don’t buy sushi from whole foods. i love whole foods i do, but their sushi leaves something to be desired. (read: i could only choke down about half of a cucumber roll before i had to admit defeat.)
never again.
I once went to a hot, hot carnival in northwest Ohio where one of those grimy food vendors was selling sushi and tacos. Bad news all the way around.
It must be one of the Super Targets with a grocery store. I don’t know where one is . . .maybe Plano?
But – I would be very, very skeptical. Sushi is on the expensive side for a reason: good, fresh fish is costly to bring to the Big D, skilled sushi chefs don’t come cheap, and it only keeps a day at most. So if you’re getting it “cut rate”, what’s being cut?
There are tons of good sushi bars that don’t cost a fortune, you certainly don’t have to drive out to Plano. I mean, most rolls cost .80 to $1 a piece, whether pre-packaged or not. I’d be really suspicious of anything costing less. And I’ve never had good pre-packaged sushi.
Of course, I do understand the perverse novelty of trying sushi from Targe’. If that’s the case – count me in!
Oh, Amanda is right about Whole Foods, Avoid the sushi from Eatzi’s, as well. Worst. Sushi. Ever.
skillman and abrams.
super target.
and your source is most likly a crackwhore if they think sushi from there is good. Either that, or they want to be subversive while seeming helpful. Your genius inspires this kind of spiteful mojo.
Super Target, while a mecca for discount shoppers, certainly isn’t the place to buy sushi. Wait two weeks and go to… *drum roll* Central Market!
blowfish. simply. rocks.
if you’re ever in Arlington, that is. green oaks & north collins, tucked away in a lil’ strip mall. don’t let that turn you off. prices are a bit steep, and you’ll wait about 45 minutes to get your food, but it’s WELL WORTH IT. last time i went, i was there for three hours eating sushi and drinking sake. =)
and charles is right. eatzi’s sushi is terrible.
