I just got interviewed by The New York Times.
Not for a job. For a story on the CD Mix of the Month Club. Things are getting a little out of hand.
In other news, if you’re like me — a young Texas male with decent credit and a clean driving record — hunting for cheap car insurance, call Allstate. I had been paying $800 per six months with Progressive. I called Geico, and they wanted $1180! Allstate came through with a much more reasonable $450.
Interesting idea: Cityblogs.

how many nov. mixes did you get? was it as crazy as oct? it must keep you busy, but i hope you can continue the mix club!!
Hey, congrats! And thanks for the cityblogs link.
When’s the article going to run in the NY Times?!!?
Allstate has treated me well for nearly 20 years. When I was on my own at 18 and bought my first car, they were the only ones who would even talk to me about insurance. Everyone else wanted some kind of parental umbrella. My husband was stuck in a high risk insurance cycle, they covered him on my policy at a rate lower than mine! Through 2 no fault accidents, one a total loss with injuries, they still want my business.
my condolences.
allstate rocks. they have great renter’s insurance rates too.
I was fairly happy with Allstate until recently. After having a particularly serious accident back in October, they took two weeks making a decision on what to do with my Jeep. And even though the body shop didn’t seem very interested in fixing it due to the extent of the damage, Allstate opted not to total it. The damage estimate ended up being about $11,000 – half the total value of the vehicle. And because of how complicated the repairs are (frame was damaged, floor buckled and needs replacing), it’s not expected to be finished until sometime in January (if all goes well).
To make matters worse, Allstate will only pay for a rental car for a month…except their idea of a month was 27 days, and they included that two week period where I didn’t know whether the Jeep was going to be fixed or totaled. They didn’t bother to inform me of that fact until day 26, and because it fell right at Thanksgiving, I still had to pay a few days out of my own pocket. I’m basically without a car right now, but I’m lucky in that I just began a month-long vacation of which I’ll be in Hawaii for a couple weeks of.
