Here’s my story in today’s paper, which has absolutely nothing to do with Wilmer-Hutchins. I swear. It’s actually one of my favorite pieces in a while — telling the tale of a 35-year-old Chicano civil-rights school strike in a small south Texas town. You may actually enjoy reading this one.

What a great story. While stripping local schools of the power of self-determination pales (in my opinion) in comparison to stripping individuals of their power, as a public school teacher, I often dream of our students becoming so fed up with the constant testing and other such nonsense that they just get up and walk out.
Alas, my students don’t seem tuned in enough to understand the ramifications of all the new policies.
I love reading about student empowerment. Keep up the good work.
