“Personality test: When you hear “Singing in the Rain,” do you envision Gene Kelly or Malcolm McDowell? If you picture Gene Kelly, don’t date someone who envisions Malcolm McDowell. Good sex, but it’ll never work out, so start every relationship with this question.”

About 10 years ago, my parents took me to the Lady Bird Johnson museum or house or something, and the tour guide was full of random facts. Turns out that “Singing in the Rain” was LBJ’s favorite song. When they played it, I turned to mom and said, “I hate this song. Why do I hate this song?” She explained to me that when I was a toddler, my grandparents had a little music box that played “Singing in the Rain.” I would wind it up, and then cry my eyes out until the song stopped. Then I would keep winding and crying until I was all cried out. (No clue why.) So I envision the perplexed look on Papa’s face when he saw me do it over and over.
Who do I date?
Sadly for you, you date no one. You pine endlessly for the ghost of Lyndon Johnson.
Well, that explains a lot.
