Two more stories in today’s paper: Smile, darn it; that’s an order and Reporter’s Notebook: Dullness, efficiency going hand in hand. (Alas, space requirements meant my brilliant observations about the New Orleans/Utah Jazz were cut from the notebook story, which is why it seems a little oddly constructed.)

Okay, was she really named Pam Jolley? I would hope she wouldn’t have too much trouble smiling.
indeed that was (and presumably is) her name. and no trouble smiling. (actually, the headline is sort of misleading. utahns have no trouble smiling. they’re all very friendly, no one argues that point. it’s that they might not be having fun that was, um, ahem, newsworthy. yeah.)
I haven’t been able to access the D(a)MN site all day on my free subscription… so I haven’t had a chance to read it yet. But as an erstwhile volunteer, I can vouchsafe for the extreme lengths that volunteer trainers went to encourage a more gregarious (Sydney-esque) comportment.
Utahns are a happy, friendly people… but not exactly effusive.
Think “Lake Wobegon” without all the Lutheran guilt.
Anyway… back to your regular broadcast.
